GFC filmmakers travel to Malawi for International IDEA documentary

Galway Film Centre is currently producing another documentary with International IDEA and filmmakers Alice McDowell and Maurice Gunning.

They are capturing stories from LGBTI groups and communities and following their journeys towards inclusion.

In November 2015 they travelled to Nepal to explore the story behind the country’s progressive ‘third gender’ movement. There they worked with the renowned LGBTI activist and former politician Sunil Babu Pant  and the organisation that he established in 2001 ‘Blue Diamond Society’.

Alice & Maurice are currently in Malawi, one of the few countries in the world where homosexuality is illegal, to investigate some of the grassroots efforts to train and sensitise journalists, politicians and key decision-makers about the issues faced by the LGBTI community.

Their final trip will be to Fiji in April this year to follow local groups working in schools and rural communities.
