Where: Town Hall Theatre
Saturday 23rd January opens with the screening of the beautiful documentary ‘The Lady in No. 6’. This inspiring and truly uplifting film visits Alice Herz-Sommer, then aged 109, in her flat in London and looks back at her life. A life that took her from the glittering stages of the concert halls of Europe to treading the squalid stage boards of Theresienstadt, a Nazi concentration camp.
The film tells the inspirational story of 109 year old Alice Herz Sommer, a Holocaust survivor and pianist, who tells the story of how music saved her life: both during her time in Theresienstadt concentration camp and in the years afterwards.
Soprano Lynda Lee and pianist Finghin Collins have selected songs from music composed and performed in Theresienstad. While performed under duress for propaganda, for the prisoners music often also became an element of comfort to them and the varied programme stretches from cabaret numbers to lullabies.
