Galway City of Film would like to congratulate the three writers Mark Dollard, Ged Murray and Jacinta Owens who have all been shortlisted to work with Script Editor Deirdre Roycroft to develop and refine their short film scripts. One of these scripts will be selected to go forward for production with a budget of just under €15,000.
RTÉ, in partnership with Galway Film Centre and Galway Film Fleadh, announced the new Short Film Commission Scheme earlier this year. Writers were invited to submit a story idea. New and up-and-coming directors were also invited to submit a short CV to be selected through a competitive process to direct the winning script.
The next stage of the commission will be to select the director and producer which will be done on the basis of the applications already submitted. Directors and producers will be shortlisted and sent the final winning script and invited to interview in early December to discuss how they would approach the script. On the basis of this interview the director / producer / writer team will be selected and pre-production can begin in early 2016 with a view to the film having its premiere at next years Galway Film Fleadh.
The directors will also be mentored by an experienced director through prep, casting right through to being supported on set. The directors mentoring panel will include Dearbhla Walsh (Penny Dreadful, Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot), Paddy Breathnach, (Shrooms, I Went Down), and David Caffrey, (Love Hate, Divorcing Jack) and, depending on the shooting schedule, one of these will mentor the director.
We look forward to the next stage of the commission.
