‘The O’Briens’ to screen in Galway

Fresh from it’s victory at the Newport Beach Film festival for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking’, ‘The O’Briens’ feature film will reunite it’s cast and crew for the Irish premiere in the county where it was filmed last year.  ‘The O’Briens’ was chosen as the ‘Irish Spotlight’ by the prestigious film festival, where due to an opening night sell out, a second screening was scheduled.

The Irish premiere will be screened on Thursday September 19th at The Eye Cinema followed by an after show party at the G Hotel.

The film revolves around an Irish father who, two years after the death of his wife, has summoned his daughter and two sons back to their homestead in Galway. Tensions are high, secrets are revealed and family bickering ensues as the siblings speculate on the reason for their father’s request. ‘The O’Briens’ is a feel good comedy, which brings a fresh outlook to the modern Irish family.

Richard Waters directs the film by screenwriters Slaine Kelly (Comedown/The Tudors) and Emmett Hughes who both take leading roles and produce. It is financed through private investors and produced by Fionn O’Brien, Ciara Byrne, Richard Kearney and Alison Scarff.

The film boasts an impressive cast of veteran and rising acting talent from Ireland, including Liam McMahon (Hunger, Titanic: Blood and Steel), Kelly Blaise (The Borgias, The Inside), Amber Jean Rowan (The Vikings, What Richard Did), Lochlainn O’Mearain (Ros Na Rún, Bord Bia), Paddy C. Courtney (Shameless, Paddywhackery), Tommy O’Neill and Caroline Rothwell (Fair City).

‘The O’Briens’ also features original music from Paddy Casey and Roisin O, two of Ireland’s most recognisable musical acts, who will play music from the soundtrack of the film at the after show party on Thursday evening.

Members of I.F.T.A. have been invited to a ‘first look’ screening in Dublin’s Savoy Cinema on Wednesday 18th September.
