Tuesday, 5th of July
Previewed by Sue Murphy (Sue will be doing a daily preview/review so stay tuned to this space!)
The Galway Film Fleadh kicks off this evening with an Opening Film that is also a First Feature. Darragh Byrne’s Parked tells the story of an unlikely friendship between 21 year old Cathal and middle aged Fred, both of whom have taken up residence in their cars. This is particularly a pick to look forward to, continuing with the success of Irish films on the festival circuit lately. This wonderful gem stars Colm Meaney as Fred and Colin Morgan as Cathal. The Director, Darragh Byrne will be attending the screening in the Town Hall Theatre this evening at 7.30pm.
This will be followed by a screening of Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, which will take place at the Town Hall at 10pm. The film tracks the experiences and adventures of three aliens from the planet Zots who are told to have their hearts broken on Earth, one of which, a female alien named Zoinx falls for an Earthling Jane. Described as an “original mash-up of lo-fi New York City romantic comedy and sci-fi B-movie spoof”, the Director Madeline Olnek will be in attendance. The opening night of the Fleadh perfectly brings together Irish, World and first features and promises an exciting 5 days in Galway…
