Documentary Making

Autumn 2010

Participants will develop story ideas and learn practical skills. No prior experience is necessary. Participants should come to the course with an idea that is achievable for a short documentary. This course will give the participants a grounding in the basics of documentary making. Participants will work as a group to make a short documentary and will be given a copy of their work on DVD. A public screening of the films will be held in Galway City.

The tutor is documentary maker Paddy O'Connor, who has made numerous documentaries including the award winning documentary The Gamble, which was part of the RTÉ True Lives series. Other RTÉ screened documentaries, which Paddy made, include The Hill (stemmed from an ID project) and Jolly Fine Boating Weather. Paddy continues to work in the community as a filmmaker.

Recent films made on this course such as Capoeira for Life, Camera Man and An Gobán Saor have been in competition in the Galway Film Fleadh. Watch a film below:

Course Duration: Four weekends

Course Dates: 18th/19th, 25th/26th September and 2nd/3rd & 9th/10th October

Course Cost: € 405 unwaged/€ 455 waged (These fees include membership to the Centre for the year). Early Bird Discount of €50 if you pay in full by August 27th.

**There is a 10% discount if you have done a course with us in the last year. Members, who have done a course with us in the last year, can avail of the early bird discount or the 10% discount, but not both.
