ID Films

Galway Film Centre in association with Galway City Council, Galway County Council and The Arts Council have recently completed working with five local communities to create five documentaries which were screened in The Town Hall Theatre on November 27th. This year’s projects were with Galway Community Circus, Cois Cladaigh Chamber Choir, The Russian Culture Club Alliance, Tiernascragh Heritage Project and Leabharlann na gCairde. These documentaries will be available on our website soon.

Galway Film Centre, under its ID Projects Scheme, has been working with community groups to develop technical, practical and personal skills, in the area of documentary making since 2000.

The ID Projects aim to document a broad range of issues and subjects in society today by empowering groups to tell their own stories. This is done by giving participants basic foundation training and hands-on experience in the areas of writing, directing, camera, sound and editing. The groups then tell their own stories based on the common theme of identity.

The full archive of over fifty ID Films is now available to view on this website. Simply click on the links to each year on the top right hand side of this page and enjoy the documentaries from each year.

We would like to thank the large number of city and county groups who applied for a place under the ID Projects 2011 programme and look forward to working with new communities in 2012.
