A unique opportunity to meet with the world’s leading financiers in an intimate and informal atmosphere, allowing new talent to be discovered and long term partnerships to be made. The Marketplace co-ordinates pre-scheduled meetings between filmmakers with projects in development (priority will be given to projects which have a finished screenplay available and a percentage of development and/or production finance in place) and/or completed films and invited Film Financiers, Distributors, Sales Agents, Broadcasters, Film Funds and Major Producers.

The Galway Film Fleadh reminds us of its call for entries into a story pitching competition of the 2012 edition of the festival. The Pitching Awards is a live event where five short-listed applicants pitch an idea for a film to a panel of industry experts. The winner receives €3,000 which they can use in whatever way they see fit.

Deadline for submissions is the 8th June 2012.

The Galway Final Cut Pro Users Group’s next meeting is Tuesday 8th May at 7pm in the Galway Film Centre’s Member’s Room in Cluain Mhuire.

Scúp, written by Colin Bateman, is a new 8 part Irish language drama series set in Belfast and will be broadcast on BBCNI and TG4.

Amnesty International and the Huston School of Film & Digital Media are presenting the much acclaimed documentary ‘Robert Mugabe -What Happened?’ on March 24th at 7pm in the Huston School. Billed as the definitive account of Mugabe’s life, the film’s maker Simon Bright says that this film “gives Mugabe the credit where its due. It’s an exploration of what happened to a promising African leader who was well respected and it recognises his fight for freedom and against Apartheid. But it also explores the forces that caused him to effectively destroy a lot of what he built.” The documentary, directed by Simon Bright and produced by Michael Auret, had its World Premiere as the Opening Night film of the Encounters South Africa International Documentary Festival in Cape Town and went on to be the most watched film at the 2011 event, with additional screenings being added to accommodate the demand.

Produced by Michael Auret, the film will be presented by Michael Auret Snr, the producer’s father, who spent most of his lifetime in Rhodesia (as it was formerly known) and then Zimbabwe, working for the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace. He eventually settled in Ireland with his wife, originally from Sligo. Q & A after the film.

Element Pictures are releasing the wonderfully quirky ‘This Must Be The Place’ starring Sean Penn on March 23rd. To celebrate its release, there will be a special advance screening in The Eye Cinema on Thursday March 22nd at 7pm.
