Galway Film Centre is delighted to partner with Mojocon on on an exciting Mojocon Fringe Event Smartphone Filmmakers. Mojocon is a mobile journalism conference taking place in Galway City from 4th to 6th May.
Smartphone Filmmakers is one of six MoJoCon fringe events and will look at the possibilities for filmmakers to create content solely on a smartphone. It will look at the panels’ experiences of using the iPhone to produce work, both TV drama and documentary, the pros and cons around using the iPhone in this way and where it’s all heading into the future.
Speakers will include Eleanor Mannion (RTÉ), Julie Ryan (MK1 Productions), Judie Russell (The Vidacademy) and Jean Devlin (Independent Producer) and the panel will be chaired by Paddy Hayes (Magamedia).
Both Eleanor and Jean will talk about ‘The Collector‘, the first feature length (57 mins) documentary to be commissioned and shot in 4K on an iPhone by a broadcaster anywhere in Europe while Judie and Julie will discuss the use of the iPhone on the hit feature, The Young Offenders, and upcoming drama plans with the iPhone.
Since the beginning of Mojocon one of the key aims has been to facilitate the growing community of mojo professionals with an international event to meet, network and share stories and this years fringe events hope to bring mojo to a broader community. Mojocon is run on a not-for-profit basis by RTÉ. It receives no license fee subsidy or other direct financial support, instead the team that organise the event do so as an additional responsibility to their core functions in RTE.
