Comhgairdeas to Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill for her recent nomination in the GALA TV Rising Star Award.

“The exciting new Award for Television recognises the skill, talent, and professionalism of Ireland’s leading young broadcasters and brightest rising stars who are blazing a trail across Irish and international TV screens. The six Nominees have been selected by a panel of industry experts, and the winner will now be decided through a people’s choice vote as the public can vote online over the coming weeks for who they feel should win this prestigious Award.”

The GALA TV Rising Star Award will be presented at this year’s annual IFTA Gala Television Awards Ceremony which takes place on Friday 7th October at the Double Tree Hotel in Dublin and will be broadcast on TV3.

Máire recently participated in the pioneering documentary ‘Mending Legends’, commissioned by Galway UNESCO City of Film, in partnership with CÚRAM, Centre for Research in Medical Devices and funded by Science Foundation Ireland.

The documentary explores the devastating physical and psychological impact of tendon injuries amongst athletes. The film also meets the team of Galway-based CÚRAM researchers who are trying to design a new type of tendon implant – in the form of the world’s first 3D cell assembled tendon prototype, which could mark a groundbreaking change for the world of sport.

Mending Legends’ is one of two documentaries commissioned under this new Science on Screen strand of programming and will premiere at Galway Science and Technology Festival, during the Science Foundation Ireland-supported National Science Week in 2016.
