Welcome

Established in 1989 by a group of film-makers, Galway Film Centre is dedicated to the development of film and video as an artistic medium in the West of Ireland. Galway Film Centre aims to increase, encourage and promote film and television production, film exhibition and film culture within the region. Galway Film Centre is a non-profitmaking, member-based organisation. Annual membership is open to everyone.

The professional development and skills enhancement of film and video artists is supported through:

  • High-level professional training
  • Workshops, masterclasses and information
  • Gear hire at non-commercial rates
  • Provision of technical resources to explore and experiment
The emerging film-maker is also supported through:
  • Short script awards
  • Special project award

Galway Film Centre actively promotes meaningful and practical engagement in film and video-making through its community, youth and schools outreach programme, as well as its Summer camps for kids and teenagers. Under the guidance of professional film-makers, groups are brought on a journey through animation, fiction or documentary and shown how to make their own film.
